How to Donate Books

  1. How to Donate Books to the Library – always call your local library before donating books to ask if they are accepting book donations.

2. Call the Book Store – Your local book store will know of a way to get rid of books. They may suggest you bring in the books if you would like to donate or suggest dropping them off at a book donation bins. Sometimes these bins are located next to or inside book stores to make it easy to find. There are book donation bins usually located next to clothing donation bins. 3. School donation – always call your local schools to ask if and what kind of books they do accept. From my experience, preschools are usually happy to receive children’s books. However, I always call to make sure. It can be so disappointing to do all of that work only to not know where the best place to donate books.

4. Thrift store donation – There is always a thrift store around and most if not all of them accept used books. It may be worth exploring the possibility of locating thrift stores in your vicinity, such as those connected with a church, endorsing a particular group, or more widespread ones like the Salvation Army or Goodwill.

6. Senior Care Facilities – before you stop by with boxes of books, make sure to call the Senior Care Facilities in your area to see if they will accept books.

7. Find a “Little Free Library” around your town. Click here for their locator. I love this option because you do not have to call, just drop off the books and go. The only drawback to this is that sometimes they can be very filled up and there is not much space.

8. Contact Recycling Center – If you really have to dump them fast, you can drop them off at the recycling center of your town. If it is a special drop off, they may weigh the books and charge you based on weight for them to be recycled.

9. Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts/teachers – Ask your local shout troop leaders and teachers if they need magazines. They can use pictures for magazines to aid in creating projects for their students and troops.

How to Sell Books

10. Become a consigner – brings books to the consignment store or a consignment event. If the books do not sell, they will be donated.

13. Facebook Marketplace Post – whether it be on your main profile or in the towns group profile. You can list the books for free or for a small fee.

  1. This is really helpful! I hate getting rid of books lol but knowing they would be going to amazing homes does make me feel better! I usually drop mine into charity but I like the other suggestionsn too!
