Here are 16 Tips to Take Better Photos for Poshmark

These photo tips are great for other selling platforms too! Check out this blog post to help you make more sales.

  1. Photos for Poshmark need to be bright and clear.
  2. Make sure the colors of the photos match the exact color of the garment or product. Include in the description, “product color matches best with photo #1.”
  3. Find a clean background – a wooden floor, table, or a clean wall.
  4. Do not add any extra decor to take photos for Poshmark.
  5. There should not be any clutter in the photo (children’s toys, dirty laundry, dishes, etc).
  6. There is no need to “stage” the product you are listing. Do not have the product compete for other things in your listing like flowers, coffee cups, a beautiful pair of shoes, jewelry, etc). This only confuses the buyers! It is possible for a buyer to mistakenly assume that everything shown in the photo is included in the purchase, regardless of what is stated in the title or description. Be careful!
  7. Watch out for little pieces of dirt or dust, pet hair, human hair, etc that are stuck to the item.
  8. Invest in a sticky lint roller – you can purchase cheap lint rollers from Amazon ( I personally use these!) and do a quick roll. You will be surprised how much better it looks! See a stain on your clothes? Heres a blog post to help with getting those stains out quickly!

9. Take multiple angles.

10. Make sure there is equal space on each side of the photo from the end of the garmet to the end of the photo. Ensuring the appropriate amount of “looking room” or “head room” in a photograph is essential. This pertains to the gap between the subject’s head and the top of the image. This ensures that the entire image is visible and no parts are cut off.

11. One of the best tips for taking photos on Poshmark is to use your phone’s camera within the app. This is because Poshmark requires square photos. Sometimes your phone’s camera is better than a regular camera. Take less time and take pictures with your phone. I find the Poshmark app to be extremely useful for saving pictures as drafts for future editing. For optimal results, it’s crucial to adjust your phone’s camera settings before snapping photos with the app. The pictures are set to a square format by default, but tweaking the settings can prevent any unwanted cropping or cutoffs. Save yourself the disappointment of wasted photos by taking the necessary steps to capture them flawlessly.

12. If you are using a backdrop, make sure it has no wrinkles to take photos for Poshmark.

13. Do not include pictures of your fingers or hands. I cringe whenever I see someone holding the tags down with their fingers especially if their fingernails are not in the best shape. There are ways to hold down the tag without showing your hands or unmanicured fingernails!

14. Do not edit photos.

15. Take pictures of the imperfections.

16. Do not take pictures outside.

How to Take Photos for Poshmark: These 6 Photos are Essential!

  1. A photo of the whole garmet/product.
  2. A photo of the tags – 1 for each.
  3. 2 to 3 photos of the front (left side, center, right side)
  4. 2 to 3 photos of the back (left side, center, right side)
  5. 1 photo that shows the whole back of the garmet/product.
  6. Generally, the final photographs are taken to highlight the unique features of the clothing or to accentuate any imperfections to take photos for Poshmark.

All of these tips will help you save time and money. My favorite way to take pictures is to flat lay.

How to Take Photos for Poshmark: Flat Lay Clothes

Flat-laying clothes to take pictures must be the fastest, easiest way to take clear, clutter-free photos in record time. Taking photos of clothing on my clean, clutter-free wooden floor typically only takes me around 30 seconds. Here are 5 easy steps of how to flay lay clothes:

  1. Find a clean, clutter-free spot on the floor or a table. I cannot recommend taking flat-lay clothing photos on a couch or a bed. To me, the bed or a couch always has lint or hair or you can just tell it’s on someone’s bed, which can be distracting to a buyer.
  2. After finding a clean spot, place the garment and use your hands to smooth out any wrinkles to take photos for Poshmark.
  3. If your garment has long sleeves or pant legs that are not visible in the photo, you can fold them to create the illusion of crossed arms. If the pants are too long, you can fold the pants at the knees and make it look like the garment is kneeling or almost jumping. Here are some example photos:

How to Take Photos for Poshmark: Hanger on Wall Hook

I love to use a nice wooden hanger and a small nail on a blank wall to hang a dress or special garment. I think it really makes the garment look nice and it photographs well. Plus, it is pretty easy to find a blank wall in your house. In the event that you would rather not cause any damage to your walls, employing command hooks can prove to be a highly effective alternative. These hooks are a practical and reliable solution for hanging lightweight items, such as pictures and decorations, without having to resort to drilling holes into your walls. This option provides a hassle-free and stress-free experience, making it an ideal choice for anyone looking for a convenient and easy-to-use solution for their hanging needs.

When I am photographing an object that is hung on a wall, I tend to focus my camera on the top of the hanger rather than the nail or hook that is holding it up and it allows me to capture a more aesthetically pleasing image while also ensuring that the object is securely fastened to the wall. It kind of just makes the photo ugly and it is not needed. No one is interested in how the garment is hanging, just that it looks nice.

Using a Mannequin to Take Photos

To be truthful, I don’t have enough experience taking photos for Poshmark using a mannequin since I’ve never found it necessary to buy one. Apart from selling kids’ clothing, I also sell men’s and women’s clothing. A while back, I considered buying a mannequin when I was starting out, but I found out that they can be quite expensive, with some costing over $100 for a new one. Nevertheless, I was unsure about which type of mannequin to get. For example, should I buy one with a head? One without a head? One with arms? One with legs? Hands? Feet for shoes?

Then I thought, where would I put it? What if I cannot store it efficiently? Also, how would I resell it if I did not like using it?

I Could Not See Why to Make the Investment

For me there were too many what ifs so I have not made the investment to purchase a mannequin for how to take photos for Poshmark. I just found out that they’re being sold online, especially on Facebook marketplace, for a cheaper price. I have seen some listings of people giving them away! They do go fast but so far, I have been selling steady without the use of a mannequin.
