These helpful playroom organization ideas will help you stay sane while you are trying to organize the playroom day after day, year after year. When I look around my home, sometimes I feel overwhelmed by how much stuff is laying around, even in cabinets or items I already know need organization. Most of the time I daydream about throwing everything out and starting over.

My best advice is to try to keep a clean-out schedule and stick to it. Whether it is daily, weekly, or monthly, make sure to clean out regularly. The more unused toys you sell or donate, the happier you and your children will be. Also, writing it down will make you feel more accountable. This blog post will help you understand why and how playroom organization will help change your mind and your life!

9 Phenomenal Playroom Organization Ideas

  1. Keep the toys in the playroom! At the end of the night, bring toys back to the playroom. Keep a bin or a tall basket in every room for this sole purpose. It will be life-changing for you to clean all of the rooms within a few minutes, rather than spending an hour organizing all of the toys in each bedroom or living room!
  2. A small table and chairs for craft projects. If you have the space, set up a small table for craft projects and make sure to keep craft projects and their supplies in the playroom!

3. Playroom Storage Shelves or Cubbies – I love storage cubbies for playroom organization ideas! We have one 6 cubby storage for my son and another one for my daughter. That way they each have their own space and place to put away their toys. You can always designate a few storage cubbies for each kid if you do not have enough space for many pieces of furniture.

4. Storage ottomans will be your best friend! Storage ottomans are awesome like this one on Amazon. They look pretty, you can sit on them and store a large number of small toys in them (think trucks, baby doll accessories and play food).

5. Wooden Trunks – wooden trunks are great for storing toys. I love checking out used ones from Facebook marketplace.

6. Train Table – If you have a train table that has a sliding drawer but your kids are too old to use it as a train table, it can be a puzzle table or even a doll station! Use the bottom drawer for other toys such as dolls/doll clothes and accessories/trucks/hot wheels/toy kitchen supplies.

7. Bookshelf Secured to the Wall- Books are one of my favorite things to have in the house! Our family loves books so we are constantly bringing in new ones. We usually get new books from the library each week. I also feel like we are constantly updating our book stash. *Always make sure to secure bookshelves on the wall, especially in a household with children.

8. Get Rid of Toys Monthly – There are so many toys my kids forget about. The ones at the bottom of the bins. Get rid of those if you have not seen them for a month. I love donating them to preschool or kindergarten teachers.

9. If you have Outdoor Space – Bring the Large Toys Outside – Such as bicycles, tricycles, large non-electric construction trucks. Plastic toy kitchens can be used outside. Think about investing in an outdoor deck box like this one to store toys outside.

In packing up one room, I discovered that not many things fit in one box, and several boxes are needed. When we packed up our playroom, it felt like I was putting junk in a box. What’s the point? If you do not love it, why keep it?

When I was little, we did not have a playroom to organize. I had toys stored in a pile on the floor in my bedroom and it was always a mess. I spent a lot of time outside and absolutely loved it. However, my parents have since explained that the toys were much more expensive. Also, there were not as many toys are there are now, which is why we did not have a lot. Then growing up and becoming a parent, I realize that the less kids’ toys, the better. It seems like every day is a great day to declutter kids toys! Plus, they are super easy to resell or consign.

Playrooms must be decluttered regularily if it is small! It does not matter if your kids bring toys into the house, they are also brought in after celebrating special occasions like holidays, birthdays and other important events. Think 4th of July – you bring the kids to a parade, a bbq and the fireworks. They are bound to bring in 4th of July themed small plastic toys such as glow sticks, hair accessories or flags. It is a challenge declutter it all, but if you make it a regular part of your schedule, it will reduce the amount of anxiety and stress in your home.

Decluttering the Playroom to Consign

After you declutter and organize, you will have many other things to sell.  There is a popular saying, “You do not know how much you have until you move.”  Pretend you are preparing for a move and need to get rid of things to make the move easier.  You will quickly find many things you can get rid of and have the opportunity to make some extra money.

Decluttering is a process and can take a long time. However, regularly organizing and getting rid of the things you do not need will keep you and your kids happy. Click here to find out what supplies you will need to sell it at a consignment event!
