selling games and dvds

Selling dvds can be annoying and tough! It seems like everyone has the same dvds and their value has gone down dramatically since movies have gone digital. Who has a large collection of dvds but not a working dvd player…that’s me. Oh well, just need to get that big collection out of the house! It is collecting dust and is no longer needed since everything is digital. Here are the best ways to finally get rid of and sell your dvd collection.

1. Selling DvDs and Games Online

You can always try to sell dvds online, or there are trade-in services that may or may not accept your dvd in exchange for a small credit.

If you are trying to sell games, stores like GameStop and Amazon have a trade-in program that goes towards credit for their store or cash. I love the GameStop option because you get the cash and get rid of the clutter on the same day.

However, depending on the game, you may be able to make more money selling the games individually on an online marketplace. Keep in mind that here are a lot of scammers that buy and sell games and DvDs online so if there is any problems with the sale, you may end up losing money.

If you are interested in selling dvds and games online, eBay, Amazon, Mercuri, Poshmark, and Facebook Marketplace are great places to sell dvds online.

2. Sell Dvds at Consignment Events

If you have a lot of movies for children such as Disney movies, Pixar, etc., bring them to the next consignment event! Of course, it depends on the title and condition of the DVD, but they do sell. And consignment events are a great way to get rid of them fast!

Tip: Just be prepared to not sell brand new DVDs for $5.00 at consignment events. Most of the DVDs and games at consignment events are priced to sell, meaning the cheaper, the faster they will sell.

Consignment events are a great way to get rid of Dvds and games laying around the house, taking up space and get some money back as well. Another thing to keep in mind is that children’s consignment events will only accept children’s movies or family-related movies so any type of movie that involves violent fighting, curse words, or some movies that are rated PG-13 and up, will not be allowed. Double check with the consignment company for exceptions.

3. Have a Yard Sale

Include dvds with the rest of your items you would like to sell at a yard sale. Yard sales can be hard work. However, the best way to have a yard sale is to put all of the large or the items that do not need much cleaning or preparation out for sale. Lay the dvds out on a table for $1 each. Resellers love yard sales and you may be able to sell them quickly if you price dvds cheap. Let the reseller do the work for you if you just want to get those dvds out of the house as soon as possible.

4. Donate DVDs

There are so many places in the world that can use donations. If you can donate, please do! It will make you feel great by not only helping out multiple people, but it will take a load off your shoulders and free up a lot of space in your house. There are also so many organizations that accept dvds so it will be easy to get rid of them. Here are just a few places below:

  • Local schools
  • Libraries
  • Donation boxes
  • Veterans Pick-Up Services
  • Thrift Stores runned by Community Churches
  • Older people living facilities
  • Boys & Girls Clubs
  • Children’s hospitals

If you know a place local that you may think will take a donation, even if they are not asking or do not advertise for donations, just give them a call. They will be happy to accept the donation or say, “no, thank you.” Who knows, they may know another organization close by that will accept dvd donations.

Cleaning Dvds Takes Minutes!

A great upside to selling dvds, cds, or games is that there is not much prep, other than wiping down the case and making sure there are not any scratches on the disc itself. Easy to sell, easy to get rid of!
