Advantages of Selling at Consignment Events

  • A great way to make fast and easy way to make money is to get rid of a lot of toys, accessories, furniture, clothing and shoes quickly. Getting all of these things out of your house in one trip makes life so easy! Not only that, but you are getting paid to get this stuff out of your house. Depending on the consignment sale, you can make up to 90% of the sale price, a great reason why consignment events are a fast and easy way to make money. Read how to declutter here.
  • Do not worry about responding to buyers’ questions to make a sale. Unlike listing online, you will not receive a notification that someone has left a comment under your listing or in your messages. And you will not have to worry about the time in which you respond or if it hinders your sale.
  • There is no need to take photos. There will not be a listing online for your items, so there is no need to take photos! Do not worry about taking the time to edit and post photos!
  • You do not have to make a listing of your item. The items that are sold at the consignment event are there for people to see while they are browsing the consignment event. You will not be asked to make a listing of your item or worry about the description. Less work, more of a reason why consignment events are a fast and easy way to make money.
  • No customer service experience necessary. This is a big one for me. Even though I have years of customer service experience I am always relieved when I do not have to deal with customer service. Part of the percentage of the sale goes to the consignment company like this one. Their charge is summed up for renting the venue, the customer service they provide, the advertising and equipment. The fee they charge is a small amount and if you think about it, it is hard to think of another platform of selling where you are not charged a portion of your sale.
  • Save time and gas by not going to the post office to mail your sale. Do not even worry about what time the post office closes! You do not have to stop by the post office on the way to pick up the kids from school. Save time and save gas!
  • If your item does not sell, you can pick it up, if you want. There are two options when it comes to bringing your things to consignment events. Number one – if your item does not sell, the consignment event will donate it for you. And two – you can pick up your item at the end of the sale if it does not sell. Donating is always the better option. Donate to make someone else happy and get the item out of your house. Donating this way also saves gas, saves room in your house, and helps out someone else.
  • You do not have to deal with returns or scammers. I love it that I do not have to deal with any kind of returns or scammers when I take my things to a consignment event. When you sell online, you are always taking a chance with returns or scammers.
  • There is no rating system for selling. As a seller, I have been scammed by a buyer more than once and it can be a chore to maintain that 5 star rating. Also, it is discouraging and you can lose a lot of money. Consignment events only have a seller number on the tag. No stars. No ratings of sellers. Great system which is another reason why consignment events are a fast and easy way to make money.

So, Where Do I Find Items to Sell at a Consignment Event?

  • Thrift. Visit Goodwill or local thrift or consignment stores to find gently used items. Find items with the price tag attached to charge more.
  • Garage sales. Visit as many as you can on the weekends to get the most for your money.
  • Book sales. Visit libraries/ask the librarian if there are any large book sales around the area and look at flyers posted in the library. Buy maternity and children’s books to resell at the event!
  • Community church yard sales. The people who work at the sale attend the church and are volunteering their time so I try to be friendly and very respectful. The church volunteers usually offer a better price but, they are always grateful to receive a few extra dollars.
  • After Holiday Clearance at Retail Stores. Last November, right after Halloween, Target was having a 80% or more off sale on Halloween items. I picked up toddler onesies, fleece pajamas, leggings and shirts for under $1.00 but not over $1.50. I bought so many things. Why? Because at the fall consignment event, guess who is going to be making money on Halloween outfits everyone will be searching for? Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Always try to find things for $1 or $2 and sell for over as much as you can. Always look out for popular brand names and things in like-new condition with tags to get the most for your money.

Some consigners make this into a full-time business because consignment events are a fast and easy way to make money. Clothing, shoes, and small toys are easy to store and bring to the consignment event. Try to look for things that do not require a lot of cleaning so you can easily attach a tag and throw it in the pile ready for the event.
